đźš“ Police, Fire, and Parks Receive Upgrades in May Council Session

In a flurry of public service approvals, the Bentonville City Council moved forward on critical equipment upgrades and facility improvements for police, fire, and parks during its May 13 meeting.

The Bentonville Police Department was recognized as part of National Police Week and received approval to trade in surplus Glock 17 and Glock 26 handguns, continuing routine modernization of department gear.

Meanwhile, the Fire Department secured approval to use ACT 833 funds for new apparatus equipment, part of a broader push to stay ahead of demand in a growing city. Unlike many large-scale purchases, this one required a budget adjustment to ensure compliance with funding allocations.

Parks and Recreation also saw substantial investment:

  • A contract was awarded for $111,300 to resurface the Lawrence Plaza Splash Pad ahead of summer.

  • The city waived bidding requirements to purchase an $81,834 field groomer for athletic fields.

  • Council also approved $65,323 for four new SCAG Cheetah mowers, and $62,230 for new soccer uniforms spanning two seasons.

Taken together, the approvals reflect Bentonville’s commitment to scaling city services in tandem with its fast-paced growth. Whether it’s first responders or families enjoying the park, city officials made clear: investment in quality of life remains a top priority.
