Highway 12/279 and Vaughn Road intersection project gets another push
March 31, 2026 — Bentonville Combined Committee of the Whole & City Council Meeting. Ahead of that meeting, reporting said Bentonville would vote on supporting a second grant application for about $4.4 million tied to intersection improvements at Highways 12 and 279 and Vaughn Road, with the city adding about $1.1 million in matching funds.
This is the kind of infrastructure story that can sound technical until you look at why the city keeps advancing it. Bentonville has already identified the intersection as a growing problem area, and city project material says the location drew the 11th-most traffic-related comments in the city. With the airport nearby and more development building around the corridor, the case for a redesign is not hard to make: Bentonville is trying to get ahead of future congestion instead of waiting for conditions to worsen.
The city’s preferred fix is a roundabout, and Bentonville held a public meeting on June 26, 2025 to present and discuss those plans. That gives this story a good narrative arc for your newsletter: what started as public design work is now moving into a serious funding phase, which is usually when infrastructure plans start to feel real.
