Rogers to Demolish Tornado-Damaged Structure on North 9th Street
The City of Rogers is moving to address a long-standing public safety concern at 1109 North 9th Street.
During the April 22 council meeting, an ordinance was introduced declaring the property a public nuisance and ordering its demolition. The structure suffered extensive damage during the tornado event of May 26–27, 2024, and has remained in a deteriorated and unsafe state ever since.
City inspectors cited multiple violations under the International Property Maintenance Code, including a dangerously compromised roof, damaged exterior walls, loose structural elements, and evidence of rodent infestation. The property has not been secured from public access, further raising concerns about safety.
Under the ordinance, the property owners have 30 days to demolish and clear the site. If the work is not completed, the city will undertake the demolition and place a lien on the property to recover the costs. City officials emphasized the urgency of the removal, noting that the structure poses an ongoing risk to public health and safety
